Justice for Black JCPS Students

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 17, 2020

District administration has failed to respond to ours and other allied organizations’ latest round of concerns surrounding:

• a request for a meeting with leaders from black and black-allied grassroots organizations regarding their members’ lack of support for the tax increase (and efforts to use it to fund minor adjustments to a discriminatory student assignment plan),
• biased processes and investigations that prevent the district from effectively addressing and rooting out racist practices and people,
• inaccessibility to public comment at board meetings during COVID, and
• authentic grassroots organizations and impacted stakeholder voices and participation being steamrolled out of the district’s campaign to support the tax increase.

Our next steps will involve reaching out to elected school board members to make sure they are aware of these concerns. Let us know if you wish to be involved.

A coalition is also forming around Justice for Black JCPS Students as part of the People’s Agenda. Reach out to Tyra Walker for an invitation to the next KY Alliance Education Committee meeting.

  • WHISTLEBLOWERS:
If you would like to confidentially report examples of student abuse or you experienced retaliation for reporting these types of incidents to your employer and/or appropriate agencies, please email us at moderator@dearjcps.com. Use subject #MakeItStop!
