Tyra’s Response

Good afternoon everyone. It is disheartening to see a message in this manner directed to and about someone who has been advocating and working diligently to get the Kentucky Alliance on board with the School Tax increase. She is someone that I will say is very concerned about JCPS as well as the students who attend JCPS. She has advocated for JCPS and worked diligently to get everyone on the Kentucky Alliance’s Board to support JCPS’s efforts, as well as with anything that JCPS wants to implement due to several of our members who are not pleased with JCPS.

I also want to apologize if you received a last minute message from the Kentucky Alliance Education Committee in reference to our weekly meeting however, it’s a weekly meeting and you can attend whenever it is convenient for you.

Let me please correct some information that is not accurate. Dear JCPS was not kicked out of AROS. They dropped out of AROS and I am a witness to that.

What is also concerning is for someone to think that putting $50 million for new schools and school choice is all the Black community wants. The Black community is woke and they see clearer than they have ever seen before. They understand that it is going to take more than money and new buildings to create equity and a quality education for their children/students. They want more and that is what Gay has been working towards.

I also would like to address the concerns of one of the longest running Grassroots Organizations, the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression, to have community members speak about their concerns during the Board meetings. Hearing the concern and passion in someone’s voice is imperative. When sending in a written statement and having someone else read it takes away that emotion that that individual is feeling. I want you to understand that I am not saying that JCBE does not take written concerns seriously. I believe you all do, however allowing the community to speak and address their concerns should be taken into consideration.

Thank you so much for your time and hope that the JCBE will continue to collaborate and work with the Kentucky Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression.
