Since our founding in 2015, we’ve accomplished a lot.

Dear JCPS members took back local control of our school board. We helped put JCPS board members in place who are the most receptive to stakeholder concerns, who have promised to hold district leadership accountable, and will strive to keep public schools public. We’ve exposed injustices and helped board members make more informed votes. Under our new superintendent, Dr. Marty Pollio, the work was able to begin. However, we still have a long way to go.

The privatization movement has lots of money and resources. True public education advocacy work is underfunded, because there is no profit to be made in doing the right thing. With charter schools and vouchers still a threat, and double-agents for privatizers lurking around every corner, we have to stay vigilant.

We are making a real difference! But we can’t do it without you. Help us keep our work going by making a donation to the movement. Every expense is paid for from volunteers’ pockets: copies, buttons, signage, handouts, social media and websites, refreshments, mileage and gas.  You name it. Our volunteers pay out of pocket when a need arises, and it’s nice to be able to pay them back or pick up a future tab. Movement work requires a great deal of communication and sophisticated infrastructure. Most of our labor is volunteer, so the expenses we like to cover are hardware and subscription services.

Our goal is to raise an additional $5,000 for 2023-2024, which will help cover hosting and media production costs, reimburse our volunteers out of pocket expenses, and pay our annual insurance premium for ourselves and PTOs under the Save Our Schools KY umbrella who can’t afford it. Once that threshold has been reached, we will put remaining funds toward victims’ and plaintiffs’ legal fees.

You donation will be going to our parent organization, Save Our Schools Kentucky. Founded in 2016, SOSKY has been holding state leaders accountable, and despite best efforts of those who wish to destroy public education, SO FAR we’ve been able to stop charter schools, vouchers and other harmful weapons of the privatizers’ agenda from ravaging Kentucky’s underfunded schools.

And now, efforts to ban the teaching of accurate history, and to take local decision making power away from our communities is under way. A mass exodus of teachers from the profession and further siphoning of remaining resources paints a grave situation for the future of public education, of which the false start to the 2023-2024 school year is another symptom.

JCPS is the same district where Breonna Taylor graduated high school. It’s also where Mitch McConnell went. Please help us continue to shed light on the disparities that exist in our schools by clicking on the Donate button and be sure to share our posts and social media. Thank you for your support.
